L'appellativo della Pieve di San Pietro
in Bossolo deriva dall'antico toponimo S. Petrus in
Pixide dal nome pyxis o buxula, una cassa usata dai
latini per deposito dell'erario statale. Il nome quindi
indicava il centro amministrativo di un territorio.
Situata sotto lo spartiacque meridionale tra i fiumi
Pesa ed Elsa, fu una delle più antiche ed insigni chiese
plebane sorte entro i confini della diocesi fiorentina,
in quella che fu la prima terra, dopo Firenze, a seguire
le orme del Cristianesimo. |

The name of San Pietro in Bossolo finds
its origins in the ancient toponymy S. Petrus in Pixide
from the name pyxis or buxula, a chest used by the Latins
to store State revenues. The name therefore indicated
the administrative centre of a territory. The church,
situated at the southern watershed of the Pesa and Elsa
rivers, was one of the oldest and most renowned of the
parish churches within the Florentine diocese, the first
part of the region, after Florence itself, to follow
in the footsteps of Christianity. |

Der Beiname der Pfarrei von San Pietro
in Bossolo stammt von dem antiken Ortsnamen S. Petrus
in Pixide von der Bezeichnung pyxis oder buxula, einem
Kasten, den die Römer zur Verwahrung des Staatsvermögens
benutzten. Der Name bezeichnete also das Verwaltungszentrum
eines Gebietes. Unter der südlichen Wasserscheide zwischen
den Flüssen Pesa und Elsa gelegen, war es eine der ältesten
und bedeutendsten Pfarrkirchen innerhalb der Grenzen
des Bistums Florenz, was nach Florenz das erste Gebiet
war, das dem Beispield des Christentums folgte. |
